Promoting communication about protecting the environment

As part of our corporate social responsibility, we maintain good communications with a wide range of people in the local community, with regard to global environment preservation activities.

1.Participating in local clean-up campaigns

p_07_tiiki.jpgThe Shiga Plant is an active participant in the Lake Biwa clean-up campaign (Sept. 4, 2010) jointly conducted by the prefecture, the city, labor welfare organizations and labor unions, as well as conducting our own clean-up activities in the area around the Plant.

The TCM Corporation Head Office was moved from Tokyo to Osaka in May 2010. From Nov. 1 thru 7 of the same year, a clean-up project, “Clean Osaka 2010”, was undertaken by the Osaka City Environment Bureau. About 70 of our employees participated in this project and cleaned up Utsubo Park, which is right in front of the TCM Corp. Head Office (Nov. 1, 2010).

2.Making our recreational facilities available for the use of local residents

p_07_kojo.jpgThe Shiga Plant opens its recreation facilities to local residents, including our biotope (a pond where wild birds gather), eco-farm (where organically grown potatoes are raised), playground, and tennis courts.

3.Participation in the Lake Biwa Environmental Business Messe

p_07_biwako.jpgThe Lake Biwa Environmental Business Messe, the largest environmental business exhibition in Japan, has been held in Shiga Prefecture every year since 1998. The basic philosophy underlying the exhibition is to protect the environment while encouraging economic growth.

TCM Corporation participated in the 13th Messe in 2010, demonstrating our nickel hydride battery-powered forklift trucks, AGV (automated guided vehicle) systems, and other products at the TCM Shiga booth.

4.Participating in the Eco-Cap campaign

p-07-bottle.gifTaking a cue from a suggestion by employees who are tuned in to the issue of environmental conservation, we participated in the Eco-Cap campaign organized by an NPO, Eco-Cap Promotion Association, a plan for saving the lives of infants in developing countries by purchasing polio vaccine with money raise by recycling PET bottle caps. Cap collection containers are installed next to all the automatic vending machines installed in our Head Office, the Shiga Plant, and our distributors and affiliates.
